In following the mandala for healing process
developed by Judith Cornell, PhD (Rajita Sivananda), we will reverently and prayerfully be of service to one another as we
You are most welcome! Lisa
The best phrase to describe me is that I play reverently. I have a lifetime love affair with art and with color. I have worked as a teacher, a spiritual director, a psychotherapist, and as a retreat director. From the first moment I learned what a mandala was, I knew I had discovered something I would treasure for the rest of my life.
I have been gifted with a wonderful education---in religious studies, literature, mysticism, and psychology. I began my career in Denver where I coordinated leadership and faith development programs for those aged 14-25. Next I had the experience of accompanying men and women religious through spiritual direction, retreat work, and the process of discernment. I was blessed to have gifted guides and mentors who helped me envision new ways of faith-sharing and discernment. I directed a campus ministry program and taught theology on a secondary level.
I am in awe of our experience of the God who made us in His image. Recognizing and realizing the Divine within each of us usually happens in a circle of grace group of people who are reverent with their own lives and with the lives of others, as well as who are open to each persons experience of God.
In both my personal and professional life I continue to explore the mandala. I hold to the conviction that art is the language of the soul and that the use of the mandala to express each one's unique experience of the Divine within is one of the greatest gifts we have been given.
My journey has been graced by the work of Judith Cornell, PhD, (Rajita Sivananda) author of the Mandala for Healing Kit. Focused on the mandala and its ability to awaken to your truest self, this process touched me at the core of my being. Having been mentored by Judith, I am also grateful to participate in the community and worldwide network of mandala facilitators whom she has personally trained.
I am available for both individual and group work with the mandala, for retreat work, and for spiritual guidance.
Our gift of imagination is one aspect of our being that separates us from all other living things. Using it within a prayer setting invites us to communicate with the Divine in a way that reflects our gratefulness for such a gift. When we image-n our connection with our God, we put an image on the essence of that relationship. Mandala-making---image-n-ing---invites us to awaken to the energy and reverence with which God has blessed us. At the same time, it compels us to deepen that reverence so that we might further our own healing and the healing of the earth.
The mandala for healing process developed by Dr. Judith Cornell involves meditation, centering, and the expression of an image, beginning with an acknowledgment that God is the Source of all Light. Integral to the process is the recognition that God's Light resides within each of us. After a multi-traditional prayer, a period of silent meditation offers the opportunity for participants to reflect on an image that symbolizes the intention and the prayer.
What makes this process connected to the ancient sacred art is that both expressions come out of a deeply meditative experience. Both focus on the energy of the experience of the individual's relationship with the Divine, yet are also mindful of all of creation. This healing process is a mandala itself, for it comes full circle---beginning with the individual experience of their God and ending with giving the light and energy awakened during this prayerful exercise back to the universe.
Mandalas are a form of sacred art that have been used for centuries to express experiences of the Divine. The mandala format provides timely and powerful meditation that brings into intense focus and awareness a sense of being in relation to both the Divine within and with all of creation. Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, and Native Americans have used this art form as a tool for healing and reflection.

Readings
Mindful now of our own rich tradition of meditation and contemplative prayer and eager to learn what is true and holy in other religions, the time is right for us to learn from one another, from whatever culture and religion, all that is helpful in moving toward a simpler life, a deeper life, and a more authentic life in which the inner experience of God is primary and energizing and centering.

Divine sound is the cause of all manifestation. The knower of the mystery of sound knows the mystery of the whole universe.
Hazrat Inayat Khan, Sufi Mystic
Jung wrote that the basic motif of the mandala
Is the premonition of a centre of personality, a kind of central point within the psyche, to which everything is related, by which everything is arranged, and which itself is a source of energy.
The energy of the central point is manifested in the almost irresistible compulsion and urge to become what one is, just as every organism is driven to assume the form that is characteristic of its nature, no matter what the circumstances. This centre is not felt or thought of as the ego but, if one may so express it, as the self. (1973b:73)
Divine Mother, Father God, absolute source of my existence, cure the root cause of all my suffering---spiritual ignorance. Awaken within my physical body, spine, and brain the memory of Divinity---my souls true nature.
Lead my consciousness from the outer deceptive ever-changing light and shadows of the physical world to that which alone is real the inner unchanging pure light and joy of my soul.
Help me realize that present within this body temple is your unconditional healing love waiting for my heart and minds recognition. Help your child to become the fully healed and immortal being you created me to be.

Last recorded words, a prayer following Communion---
Dont change: desire to change is the enemy of love.
Dont change yourselves: love yourselves as you are.
Dont change others: love others as they are.
Dont change the world: it is in Gods hands and He knows.
And if you do that---
Change will occur
Marvelously in its own way and in its own time
Yield to the current of life unencumbered by baggage.
Anthony de Mello, SJ
Making a mandala is a discipline for pulling together all those scattered aspects of your life together, for finding a centre and ordering yourself to it. You try to co-ordinate your circle within the universal circle.
Joseph Campbell
Presented here is a tribute to Judith Cornell, (Rajita Sivananda). When Judith entered her new life last May, those of us who had known her well felt her loss very keenly. The suggestion was made that we put together a video in honor of the many ways in which she had brought light and love into our lives.
Thanks to Succhinta Abhayaratna and Kate Zamarchi, this video contains mandalas from many of us.

I grew up in the shadows of the Colorado mountains and then moved away. At 21, I went back. Looking at the mountains one day, I realized that they had been a sign of Gods presence in my life. It felt like a miracle because I realized that just as they had been there within my view for so many years as I walked back and forth to catch the bus for school---they were there still. For some unknown reason, the thought then struck me that they were just like the presence of God in my life. God had always been there, even when I wasn't aware of Him. God had always been there and always would be.
My job included developing youth leadership programs and I found myself back in the mountains. And I felt a peace and a sense of grace that is still with me today. I began to know that no matter where I went in my life, I could always find God---and God could find me---in the mountains.
Later I worked with adults and their spirituality. It wasnt really much different. Everyone seemed to be looking for God. They looked in Churches and in books and in history. And all the while I worked with people on retreats---I,too, tried many different paths. And I saw many miracles, large and small. I witnessed many people deepening their relationships with their God, with one another, with the earth.
One day I had an idea. I knew that I needed to know more about mandalas. I don't know where the idea came from. It was a grace. I searched and searched, I needed to know more.
Today I know that I will always hold mountains close to my heart. They are a sacred place for me, not only because I found God there, I also found myself. I began to understand that God, the Divine, resides in my heart. This is the greatest grace I have ever known. I recognized that gift through many moments of grace and through the reverence that others showed me.
